We spent last week at the beach. It was a last minute decision for our family to go because it was a vacation we could not afford. Because I know that anytime we travel, it could be our last trip for a while, I do my best to really soak up every minute. This is the first of what I expect will be 3-5 posts about our trip.
We stayed in this super cute house with yellow doors and purple shutters. It had great space for all 22 of us - yes, you read that right - 22! We had a private pool that was slightly bigger than a bathtub and sufficient for the group. Our walk to the beach was easy. The kitchen was well stocked with dinnerware, silverware, cookware etc. so that we could cook for the group. (We typically eat out one meal on vacation and sometimes don't eat out at all).

We had bikes to get to local stores. We were in walking distance of an outlet mall, a few restaurants, surf shops, a grocery store and a pharmacy.
This will go down as the vacation/location where I first replaced my wedding set. Let me just unpack that since the first line of this post indicated that this is something I cannot afford. The day before we left I was overdue for the mani-pedi that I allow myself every 10 weeks during sandal weather. Our 26th wedding anniversary is this month, and I have never stopped wearing my rings. My rings have been snug for some time. I could barely get them off for my manicure and could not get them back on. I was am so disappointed in myself. We started vacation with my ring finger naked. I kept switching a ring Andy bought me years ago from my right hand to my left-hand ring finger. It just didn't seem right. It is also bigger on my left-hand ring finger, so I didn't really trust it in the ocean. I don't really want to resize my original rings for a few reasons, but I have not ruled out that possibility. I have been torn about getting a new set. Inspired by some of the guys who buy ceramic rings in various colors and switch out their wedding bands, I decided to explore different, affordable options as a filler until I decide what I want to do. I had no idea what my ring size is. On a trip to a mall to find my nephew a picture worthy outfit for the beach, I popped into a Brighton store to see if there were rings on display I could try on. I was the only person in the store aside from the lone employee who was sweet and chatty. I started trying on rings, but the display rings were all size 8s and way too big. The salesperson pulled out a tray of rings for me to play with. I was only going to get an idea of my size. Well, I tried these two rings on, decided I really liked the look, and purchased them. Brighton is not a fine jewelry store, so going with even good quality fashion jewelry risks a gaudy, cheap look, so I immediately asked Andy and Savannah what they thought, and both liked the paired rings. My most vocal critic has yet to notice them, so I am thinking they must not be too gaudy looking. In fact, only one person noticed them without being told. For now they are an inexpensive place holder while I decide whether to replace the original set, resize it, or whether to just try a few inexpensive options and play for a while. Regardless, I will get my money's worth out of these rings. I know how long it takes me to decide on something that seems so permanent. I am thinking that if I do opt to replace my ring set as I am leaning toward doing, I will likely pursue that closer to my 30th anniversary - God willing.
