Savannah's latest piece

Savannah completed this piece in Art Club.  I love it!  This is her profile, and she was to choose a theme for the drawings inside.  She chose art.  Savannah is also very pleased with this piece and wants to frame it.

I might add that she returned yesterday from her band trip.  After our worries about her roommate situation, she actually had a fantastic time.  The band received first place.

Savannah's latest piece

This is Savannah's latest artwork.  She completed this for her Aunt Tara by request.  Our scanner is not big enough for the entire print, so the border is cut off on the right and at the top, but you get the idea.

The missing piece of Savannah's art

I am not leaving this post up as I am also placing this picture in my post on Savannah and her latest artwork, but this is the piece she did for Julia that was missing from my previous post.

working with pastels -Savannah's turn

Savannah has put her new art supplies to use, and I must say that I am quite the proud mama when surveying the results.  My dad is a good artist, and Andy is quite good as well.  My mother-in-law is an art teacher, and sadly, I have zero artistic talent. My stick people are sad, so Savannah can easily impress her creativity challenged mom.

She initially did not care for pastels but seems to be enjoying them lately. Savannah really likes this one which she did mostly to get a feel for working with pastels again.

I, however, love this one which is the view from her room window.
Just a little bit about our sweet Savannah.  Savannah is quiet and prefers not to talk much, but she can get on a roll and talk and talk and talk.  Teachers, parents who have volunteered in her classroom, and her AHG leaders have all told us that when Savannah raises her hand to speak, they call on her because they have found that when she speaks, it is going to be something worth hearing.  She is a straight "A" student and a perfectionist. Savannah gets frustrated with her school when her class percentages are not listed on the progress reports because she wants to be sure she won't get close to a "B."  It can be difficult to live with such a perfectionist.  When she was in fourth grade, her teacher accidentally marked a correct answer wrong on a daily assignment.  I acknowledged that the teacher made a mistake but pointed out that it would not make a difference in her grade percentage and told her not to worry about it.  I even pointed out that somewhere along the line, the teacher probably missed marking a wrong answer.  It quickly became apparent that Savannah could not let this go, so I had to e-mail the teacher who was very gracious and quick to say that she wanted to know if she made a mistake.
This last piece was done for Julia, and I must say that I am quite impressed.

12

Savannah is 12 years old today.  I am not sure when I will believe it.  How can this be?

We celebrated with family on Sunday and will celebrate with several of her friends on Friday.  Savannah received a new field hockey stick which she got to pick out with her grandpa, and she also got some new art supplies including an art desk which she picked out with Andy today.  She has spent much of the day preparing her room for her new desk.  In the pictures you can see her at work with her new colored pencils.  Savannah did the works with oil pastels a while back and brought them out to try and explain oil pastels to her grandpa.

Shopping for Savannah is hard to do.  She is the most content person I have ever met.  She is not into clothes or jewelry.  Savannah rarely asks for anything, but she really seems happy with all her gifts.  Unfortunately, she was disappointed on Sunday because we did not have the whole family here.  Illness and work schedules kept some away.  We planned this at the last minute when it occured to us that Zach would be unable to celebrate next weekend. Sadly, a rift in the family kept others away.  Savannah had nothing to do with it, and her feelings were hurt. The best gift Savannah can get is having everyone together, so hopefully, we will remedy that on Friday with her friends.

the heart of my boys

Savannah came home from field hockey this evening to a surprise from Wyatt. He drew this picture for her. She was happy to get it, and I was impressed with his clear handwriting as it is normally pretty much illegible. I let Wyatt know how proud of him I am, and he was thrilled to get the praise. I suspected that Zachary had something to do with this because of a conversation he overheard last night. Savannah and Wyatt have not exactly been the best of friends since his arrival. While she really anticipated his arrival with excitement and used her own allowance to fill a box of treasures for him, he saw her as a threat to his new found friendship with Julia. Gradually they have come to terms with their relationship, but they are not crazy about each other. I was sharing this with my brother on the phone last night, and Zachary heard my conversation. It really bothered him, and he admitted when asked, that he told Wyatt to draw the picture. Wyatt spelled the words all by himself and put great effort into it, and he and Savannah both seem pleased with it. (Savannah thinks I write too much on the blog, so she doesn't usually read it. It is fairly safe to share this secret here.) Maybe we have reached a turning point. Regardless, both my boys have exhibited their hearts today, and that makes the heart of this mom very happy. (I'll try and remember this when they are doing their best to drive me crazy! -happens almost daily)

more art...as promised

This orange flower was actually done shortly after we painted Savannah's room which has been almost two years ago. The fuschia surrounding it is actually the color of her walls, and at that time, most of our walls were nuetral, so I did a double take every time I caught her room out of the corner of my eye. This self portrait was actually displayed in a Starbucks in a nearby county before we ever saw it. The picture of it does not really do it justice. It has more sparkle in real life. If you click on it, it opens the picture up bigger, and you get a better idea of the texture.

The piece of pottery on the right was actually done by Savannah's granny, but Savannah painted it and added the embellishments.

This is paint on fabric, and like the self-portrait, it is sparkly. It hangs in our kitchen and is also one of Savannah's older pieces.

This is my personal favorite. It is a crayon drawing, but I love the vibrant colors and layering.

I did say that I would share more of Savannah's art, and as things are slowly returning to normal here, I am taking a little time to blog today.
Yes, that fuschia around the orange flower is the color of Savannah's room walls. Julia now shares that room and is anxious for her own personalization. I am looking for some "art" for Julia - hopefully something with her name and my favorite scripture for her.
