School Pictures 2009

so I wasn't too thrilled with Wyatt's school pictures, scab on face, blah smile...you get the picture, so I decided to see if I could do an okay job myself, and this is the result...what do you think?

I will do the same with Zach and Savannah and, hopefully, get some better shots of Julia. I do have a couple of Savannah to be posted later in the week.

I promise to love God, cherish my family, honor my country and serve in my community.

You may remember a while back that I mentioned a responsibility issue with Julia. I threatened to pull her registration for American Heritage Girls. As you can see, I have allowed her to join, and somehow I have landed in the position of her assistant leader.

On Monday September 28th, Julia's Pathfinder group had their joining ceremony. They placed symbols of American Heritage Girls on a flannel board, recited their memory verse (Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young. Be an example to all believers. 1 Timothy 4:12).

After the ceremony, the girls enjoyed cake and punch with their families. These girls are so sweet and such fun.

In case you have never heard of American Heritage Girls. Let me explain the history of this worthy organization. In the 1990's two former girl scout leaders decided to launch a scouting program for girls that would honor our Christian heritage. These ladies left the girl scouts after growing concern over the direction the national organization was taking. As has been the case in our country in the past few decades, the girl scouts were moving away from including faith and were supporting organizations that stand in direct opposition to the Christian faith. Now, over a decade later, American Heritage Girls chapters reside in all 50 US states, and I believe has even branched out internationally.
Julia is a Pathfinder which is the kindergarten program. Savannah is an Explorer and is in her 7th year with this troop. When Savannah started the program in kindergarten, she was a Tenderfoot and remained a Tenderfoot until she finished 3rd grade. The Tenderfoot level was too advanced for many kindergartners, so the Pathfinder level was created a few years ago. We have thoroughly enjoyed our AHG years, and Julia is having a blast. However, even as I agree with the motive of this organization to encourage our girls to grow into women of integrity, I am now in my fourth year of leadership. It is wonderful for Julia and me, but I think it is hard on my family. The troop struggles to have all the necessary volunteers, and I am spending time this year deciding whether either of my girls will continue next year. As a family we have always agreed to a character building program and a sport for each child. I want to be fair to Julia in this, but I have to be realistic. If her involvement requires my involvement, then it may be best for our family if we do not pursue this. For now, we will have fun this year with the regular meetings, mother-daughter tea, and father-daughter event. We will see how this goes.

Labor Day Weekend!

So you can see just how far behind I am as these Labor Day pictures are just getting posted, but I think this puts me at four posts until I catch up.

On Sunday of Labor Day weekend, we enjoyed a cookout at my parents' house. We enjoyed Wii wars playing some sports gladiator type game. Since Andy, Tiffany, and I do not play the Wii, we were the half-time entertainment during the tournament...meaning we played the game but were there for comic relief.

Tara and Tessa go at it!

and Tara is victorious!

Jonathan and Joshua take on each other. As I recall Joshua claimed victory over everyone and won the tournament.

Even Grandma joined the action fighting Logan. You aren't supposed to try and knock your grandma off a platform, are you?

Austin goes after Grandma.

Aunt Tara fights Savannah.

On Monday, we visited with the other side of the family, when Andy's sister Dianna brought her boys and Granny to our house. Andy showed off his percussion skills and gave Alex and Ben some pointers.

Alex takes a turn.

Now, it is Ben's turn.

We then visited a festival at our church where Zach got a "tattoo." The weather was beautiful, but it was very crowded...lots of fun to be had, but we were hungry, and the lines were long.

Wyatt enjoyed a slide.

Julia got some help from the guy controlling the ropes. He had no idea what a monkey, she is. With a little patience, she may have done this on her own.

Alex starts his ascent.

fall sports

I am so far behind on posting pictures that it might take weeks to catch up, but a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, right? Here we have step 1- sports!

Wyatt is playing soccer this season. Swimming would be a better fit, but the easy soccer schedule works better with Zachary's and Savannah's sports schedules for now. We are trying to work on Wyatt's use of both sides of his body and developing core strength, so soccer is okay for that, I think. Wyatt has a strong kick and could be a good shooter if he could keep his mind in the game and kick toward the right goal. He tends to kick in whatever direction he is facing at the moment. Wyatt likes somersaults and did them all the way across the field one day while waiting on Julia's practice to end.

Julia is a pretty strong soccer player and basically does a decent job at all positions. She also likes to flirt with her coaches. Whatever will we do with her?

Both kids enjoy a trip to the playground after the games. Julia, true to her gymnast self, loves the monkey bars and has to find a way to challenge herself on them.

Check out that goalie stance!

Will she stop that ball?

YES!!! Unfortunately I was on the phone and missed the more impressive stop she did after this one. I saw it, just couldn't maneuver the phone and the camera simultaneously.

This is my favorite football picture of Zach this year...taken right after a game.

Savannah has enjoyed field hockey even though her team only won one game. I helped take pictures for the school newsletter, so I have more field hockey pictures than I do for the other sports.

Leah, Savannah, and Caroline goof off before a game.

When Savannah filled in for the goalie, she saw little action as we had the defense on the other team working hard. I felt relieved.

Savannah typically plays right back or left back. Here she is playing post for a corner.

Watching football games can be a challenge as Thing 1 and Thing 2 cannot sit still, so they run, hang out behind the bleachers, and generally goof off.

goofy, goofy, goofy
Zach plays nose tackle. He is second from the lower left corner in this picture. His white shirttail is hanging out.

Zach makes a tackle!

After we won the game as is our team's tradition, we invited the other players to join us in prayer.

I love this picture of the girls. I did another one with 2 Timothy 1:7 across the top. Savannah is on the far right.
